One of the highlights of my summer was co-presenting a session at the ORMTA ‘O Canada’ Convention in Toronto on Celebrating Canadian Composers, given by Janet Fothergill of the RCM. Matthew Fava of the CMC (Canadian Music Centre) was also invited to co-present. I introduced the music of the Red Leaf Pianoworks Collective in which a number of the composers were in attendance to perform their own compositions. Thank you to Beverly Porter, Martha Hill Duncan, Joanne Bender, and John Burge for your outstanding performances.

A busy summer of conventions, with CFMTA in Regina and the Summer Sizzle CNCM in Mount Forest Ontario. Here is a picture of us at our booth at the trade show. Six of the Red Leaf Composers were in attendance – Teresa Richert, Martha Hill Duncan, Janet Gieck, myself, Beverly Porter, and Joanne Bender and we presented a session on ‘Turning over a New Leaf’ – a presentation on our new Red Leaf Pianoworks venture.

I performed selections of my ‘Piano Poems‘, and assorted pieces from ‘Piano Mime‘, ‘Let’s Pretend‘ and ‘Little Hands, Big Pieces‘. What fun it is to play some of these little character ‘sound bites’!

Here we are at the trade show and also the airport where Martha took a picture of us waiting to board. This picture was initially upside down (must have held the iphone the wrong way!). That was a sign of our few days to come as we experienced first, a lost credit card, then, a lost cheque, and finally lost car keys!
But the convention was simply wonderful and the people of APTA were very gracious
and welcoming. We would love to go back!
